An inexpensive update.

Painting is an inexpensive way to update and improve a room.  After we finished removing the popcorn ceiling we moved on to painting the walls.  Deciding on a color was a little dificult so we settled on 2.  We wanted a red dining room but the room is too small for such a dark color throughout.  We settled on Velspar posh red and Olympic puppy paws(beige) with a chair rail and crown molding.

We prepped the walls for painting by washing them down with light soap and water to remove any dust or dirt.  We taped in the chair rail and we were ready to get started.

A chair rail should be somewhere between 32"-36".  Generally it will be one third the height of your ceilings.

The horizontal lines of the base board and chair rail will make the long but small room appear larger. (Please excuse the mess).  Next week we'll put up the crown molding and chair rail.  Should be fun considering we have no idea what we are doing yet.  How hard could it be?
